Creative Hub Worcester knows that art heals and art changes lives.

And we need your support ⭢

Since the beginning of the pandemic and even well before, the health and wellness of a neighborhood and a city depends on the mental health and wellness of its residents.

Unfortunately, factors such as poverty, housing instability, substance abuse disorder, involvement in the foster care system, and more contribute to the health and well-being of a region as a whole.

The Challenge We’re Addressing

There is not enough safe and affordable space for artists to work and learn together in Worcester. There are not enough creative spaces focused on and welcoming of all cultures. There are too many vacant buildings in our city, many of which are historic and should be preserved and revitalized for the community.

Our Opportunity

Creative Hub is working to restore the historic 2 Ionic Ave, which formerly was home to the Boys Club of Worcester, into a dynamic, vibrant, and diverse collaborative and community-based arts center that will house artist studios, a makerspace, youth classes and workshops, safe and high-quality childcare, exhibitions, event space, and so much more.

The future Creative Hub Community Arts Center will dramatically improve the lives and outcomes of all of us through community building and access to creative and unique experiences. Art is proven to improve the mental health and wellness of communities and art centers transform the neighborhoods that they reside within. The Arts can be crucial catalysts for economic change, as well as increased civic engagement and the overall health of a community.

The Data Supports Us, Too.

  • Art Reduces Stress & Depression

According to the National Library of Medicine, “Engagement with creative activities has the potential to contribute toward reducing stress and depression and can serve as a vehicle for alleviating the burden of chronic disease.”

  • Art Enhances Coping & Reduces the Need for Hospital Care, Pain Meds

According to Americans for the Arts: “Art forms that can be combined with healthcare include dance/movement, drama, music, visual, literary arts, performing arts, and design. No matter what the art form, research confirms that the arts enhance coping, thereby reducing patients’ need for hospital care, pain medication, and unnecessary extra costs.”

  • Art Decreases Healthcare Costs

Phil George, chair of Arts Council Wales, says “It helps people develop a narrative of their lives and relate to their own experience in a new way. I’m convinced from the evidence that investment in the arts for health would pay off. It would be beneficial, not just in terms of wellbeing, but in terms of the pressures and costs that mental illness puts on the system.”

THE CREATIVE HUB MISSION

Through a shared love of art and community, Creative Hub Worcester provides equitable programs for creative expression in accessible spaces.

We work alongside historically underserved youth and communities to achieve collective healing and happiness.

Three Impactful Creative Hub Stories

  • Dream it.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Equitable Arts. Accessible Spaces.

Creative Hub Worcester, “The Hub,” will become a regional center point for art and healing by focusing on the health and well-being of residents in the neighborhood we’re part of and our broader community of artists and creatives. We’d love to tell you more.
